Grant & Danny had a short show on Wednesday leading up to Nationals baseball, but they did have a great lead-in: Nats reliever Hunter Harvey joined them for a bit!
Harvey had a big night in Anaheim Monday, striking out both Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani on the same Angel Stadium mound his father, ex-Halos reliever Bryan Harvey, toed for six seasons.
“That was fun, stuff you dream of,” Harvey said. “Facing guys like Mike Trout, a first ballot Hall of Famer, and Ohtani, who’s on his way, on the same mound my dad pitched on, it’s amazing.”
Definitely a “Holy Bleep” moment, which Harvey said he has every day playing in the Majors, and it was doubly so facing Ohtani, who is somehow a Top 5 player both on the mound and in the box.
“I don’t know if you can (make sense of it),” Harvey said. “This game is very hard, and he makes it look so easy. It’s unbelievable to see what he’s doing; it feels like he’s in a video game, and everyone else isn’t.”
Harvey also discussed his repertoire and his early season success, his struggles getting to the majors, his awesome mullet (courtesy of his wife’s best friend and his personal barber), and his early thoughts on the pitch clock – “I’ve always liked working fast, so I haven’t paid attention to the clock yet,” he said – as well as what he does in the offseason.
And, in a fun segment, Harvey gave his superlatives for teammates, including which one would have the best stand-up comedy set and which would make the best MLB Commissioner.
