Adam Peters tells G&D Dan Quinn was the right choice - and so were the staffers kept from the previous regime

What does success look like to Adam Peters in Year 1 of the Commanders’ new regime?

“I think success is starting to build the foundation for a great team. The results could vary, but what you want to put out is an extremely competitive team that may win some games, but plays the right way, with a style that resonates locally,” Peters told Grant & Danny Tuesday. “That’s why Dan Quinn was the right choice for us – he can bring that. You don’t want to put a win total on it, but he’s the right guy to build that team.”

Yes, regardless of what perception may be, of Quinn being a bad choice or the fallback choice, or whatever it is, Peters reiterated that Quinn was the RIGHT choice.

“That is a perception but not reality. Our search committee had a good process with a lot of smart people, and there was conjecture, but we were committed to seeing it to the end before we made a decision and speaking to everyone to see who was right for us,” Peters said. “In the end, Dan shone the brightest – and every day I’ve worked with DQ, I’m happier and happier. It was a great choice for this organization; the vibe and energy he brings has permeated throughout the building, and it’s been really fun. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”

So, too, Peters revealed, were the Marty Party, Bobby Engram and Tavita Pritchard, and every other staffer, on the field and in the front office, who were retained from the Rivera era.

“We use that word recalibration, and the people that are still here, DQ had a good process with that – they’re not holdovers, they’re starting over as part of the new staff,” Peters said. “Whatever they did before, they’re now part of what we’re doing moving forward. We had I think four coaches and a lot of people on the personnel side, and they’re here because they’re really good at what they do.”

And some more good news: the staff isn’t done, because the analytics department is going to be prevalent everywhere, and Eugene Shen is going to get more assets, too.

“The analytics department is all-encompassing - coaching, game planning, and game management, and then scouting to find players that fit your style,” Peters said. “There’s another component where you talk about performance, and the best training methods for players to get them ready. They’ll have their hands in all different components, and we’ll be adding people.”
