Why is Benjamin St-Juste Grant Paulsen's 'guy' in Commanders camp this year?

Everybody, whether it be fans, media, or even coaches, has “a guy” they’re always watching in their specific sport’s preseason. Grant Paulsen asked Commanders fans on Tuesday who their guy is for a segment of the show, before revealing his.

“The entire reason we’re doing this segment is so I can tell everyone how much I love Benjamin St-Juste,” Grant said. “Out at practice for a day, I was reminded, just watching him move, with his length and his traits and skills physically, why I have been enamored with St-Juste since he was drafted.”

Hype that didn’t materialize in Year 1, but started to show in Year 2.

“I thought he had a banner preseason as a rookie, but got banged up and didn’t play as much, so there wasn’t much fanfare going into last year,” GP said. “But I find him to be a fascinating guy, and a really talented player who is just getting going. I think he’s going to be a star, and a guy you eventually give a second contract to and pay to be one of your high-end corners – and there’s a lot of competition there this year, but I think he’s going to be excellent, and you saw that at times last year.”

And Grant realized the Commanders were high on St-Juste at one point last year when he was picked to blanket perhaps the top WR in the league.

“When the Vikings were in town last fall, the Commanders traveled St-Juste around the field wherever Jefferson he went, like he was some shutdown corner,” Grant said. “Jefferson got his numbers, but St-Juste made it tough. He rose to the challenge, and I was impressed.”

There are some things GP wants to see from St-Juste, and he’s willing to ‘wear it’ if St-Juste fails this season…but he’s taking the hype.

“I need to see more durability, as he’s missed 13 games in two years, and he is just going to have to keep getting better,” Grant said. “But, I want to put a flag in the ground and make it known that I am a Benjamin St-Juste guy.”
