BMitch & Finlay don't think they'd want Bill Belichick with the Commanders

It was the Junkies poll of the day: if Bill Belichick becomes available after a miserable season in New England, would you want him in DC? Three-quarters of the first 2K responders were on no, and, well, while there are odds on it at various sportsbooks – Washington, at 2-to-1, is the leader to be his next team if not New England – is that even really a possibility?

"There's a lot going on in New England, and that situation doesn't seem great, frankly, and people I trust there have been saying it's not what it's always been," JP Finlay said Thursday.

BMitch wondered if Belichick has enough cache built up to be able to dictate his exit no matter how bad it may become, because Robert Kraft has been the owner the whole time so there may be more of a symbiotic relationship than with other legendary head coaches who were eventually replaced.

"Wouldn't you think with the league the way it is today, and Bill's success since Tom left, you wouldn't want a defensive-minded coach?" Brian asked. "You are trying to build the offense and educate and groom a young quarterback, I don't know if you wanna go with the defensive-minded coach."

JP agrees, noting how Brady had much more success post-Belichick than Bill has, and while Mac Jones being the wrong answer may be part of that, the idea of Belichick magic turning any roster into a winner isn't there anymore.

"This may sound asinine, but I think I'd rather go with a young hotshot OC," JP said. "Maybe you want Bill to come in and run your program, because clearly he's established a level of seriousness to the football operations in New England that the rest of the league has looked up to for 20 years, but I wouldn't want him running personnel."

"The thing about Bill that I love, is he would take a player that could not get it right and get the absolute best out of them," BMitch replied. "His discipline and his way of getting guys to play their best, that's something that you really want around. But if you start looking at it, when he started to lose some of the people in the front office, and Brady and stuff like that, a lot of that left, so it wasn't all Bill all by himself."

So yeah, BMitch & Finlay are no votes on Belichick to DC, but Brian acknowledges that the betting markets know people's heartstrings will dictate bets more than logic in most cases.

Oh, and Jeff Walker and Landphill, the guys in the aquarium, they aren't exactly feeling it, either.

"It's bittersweet, but I would take Bill Belichick – but not at the expense of losing Eric Bieniemy," Jeff said. "I'm just talking about it if we didn't have nobody, yes, but I like where we're going now and I wouldn't mind if we get a young coach next."

"Not particularly," Andrew chimed in. "I imagine that if Bill Belichick were to come here, this would be another one of those situations that we've been doing ever since Dan Snyder bought the team, where they think that the one head coach can fix everything and they give the guy all kinds of powers and authority, and it ends up not working. I also think that it's worth pointing out that Bill Belichick has like a losing record without Tom Brady."
