Amidst all the French fry golfing, Rihanna talk, and hate for JP eating biscuits with no accompaniment after Wild Card Scotty brought in some fast food for the guys, there was actually quite a lot of football talk on BMitch & Finlay Tuesday!
Doc Walker stopped by as he does on Tuesdays, as did Mitch Tischler, who got BMitch to comment on Hank Fraley when discussing the report that Fraley, the Lions’ offensive line coach and former teammate of Brian in Philly, would be the guy Ben Johnson brings with him as his OC wherever he lands a head coaching job.
Nicki Jhabvala also stopped by and had this to say about what she learned by spending two weeks in Detroit watching Ben Johnson:
"I talked to a number of players who all had good things to say, but the one thing that literally every player said was he's a very clear communicator and he's collaborative. He listens to them," Jhabvala said. "Players can go to their coach and say what they see if something’s not working, and he’s also collaborative with his staff about getting creative with his play designs – and Washington was smart to hire Rick Spielman as part of their search team, because his brother, Chris, is an assistant in the front office in Detroit. Johnson’s a math and computer science guy, not necessarily the Dan Campbell type, but players believe in him."
In that same vein, though, fellow Tuesday guest Barstool Nate wondered how much Jared Goff, who was a No. 1 pick and went to a Super Bowl with the Rams, actually learned from Johnson:
“I think it’s Ben Johnson’s job to turn down, even though others want him, but I trust whoever Adam Peters hires will be the right choice,” Nate said. “But here’s the thing about Goff: he went to a Super Bowl and was a Pro Bowler in L.A., so he was always a pretty good quarterback.”
