Mark Schlereth is a frequent guest on Grant & Danny, but GP got to hang out with Stink in person on Friday, out in Vegas on Super Bowl Radio Row!
Stink won three Super Bowls, one as a Redskin…and when GP asked if the name Commanders has grown on him, Schlereth revealed he has a Josh Harris-like tendency.
“No, and I don’t like it at all. When I call a Washington game, I call them Washington. I stay Washington just because of my propensity to slip in a Redskins,” Stink said. “Then you have to hear about it. It’s more about that than anything else.”
Grant then mentioned how Harris indeed never says Commanders, leading folks to think another name change is on the horizon…and that’s when Stink went off on an epic rant about how Redskins is gone, but not every name in that vein has had to be changed.
“I don’t understand how the Cleveland Indians had to change their name to the Guardians, and the Redskins had to change their name twice, but the Braves and the Chiefs get to keep theirs,” Stink said. “Like, can we get some false outrage over that, like everything else in America? At what point do we get the ‘we demand a change?’ I mean, they do the Tomahawk chop, why do they get to do it?”
Danny agrees with that, how the chop “seems grandfathered in somehow,” and GP thinks it’s not ideal either. And Stink?
“The whole thing just seems like we have to be outraged about something; I guess that's the way we operate here in America, we've got to be outraged and cancel things, so whatever,” Schlereth said. “It is what it is.”
But, yeah, that said, change Commanders to anything else.
“I'd love to see them be the Hogs or something,” Stink said. “I’d love to see anything that they change it to. Anything that's not affiliated with Dan Snyder and moves us away from him is a good thing.”
