After going 10-6 and losing in the Wild Card Round in 2016 under Adam Gase, the Dolphins entered a free fall – Gase was fired after a 13-19 run the next two years, and they were 5-11 under new head coach Brian Flores in 2019.
However, since then, the Fins have gone 10-6 and 9-8 under Flores and then 9-8 under Mike McCarthy last year, and are 8-3 and leading the AFC East by two games entering December this season.
The biggest thing has been quarterback play, as the Dolphins drafted Tua Tagovailoa fifth overall in 2020 (and reportedly later fired Flores because he and Tua had issues), and the former ‘Bama star is fourth in passing yards, third in completion percentage and touchdowns, and fourth in passer rating this year.
During Wednesday’s show, days before the Commanders host the Fins, Grant & Danny wondered if, starting at the quarterback level and moving on to whomever is the next coach and next GM, there is anything Josh Harris and the Commanders can learn from the way the Dolphins rebuilt after the Gase era?
