Do we have some legit heat between Grant Paulsen and Robert Griffin III?

Early on Tuesday’s Grant & Danny Show, the guys discussed RG3 on ESPN’s Get Up throwing his name out there as a potential QB to replace Aaron Rodgers, and Grant mentioned the meme someone turned it into using the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme…which he reposted on X, without commentary.

Even with no comment, RGIII reposted Grant’s repost and said this:

Grant and RG3 have known each other over a decade, so Grant chose to respond as such on the air:

“That is not the point of the clip I posted – I don't know what the larger conversation was because I wasn't watching it, nor was that the clip; the clip was just his suggestion that the reason why neither he nor Kaepernick are in the NFL, or Wentz isn’t in the NFL, is that they’re too famous, essentially,” GP said. “I don’t think that’s the case for Kaepernick seven years after he last played, or Griffin 11 years after his unbelievably impressive 2012 season – I think those guys aren't in the league because of injury history, and they just didn't play well enough for a little while – but the fact that they're celebrities…I don't do celebrity backups, and a lot of teams don't either, so it certainly works against them.”

If that’s RG3’s only point, Grant agrees there’s some merit, but he takes offense to RG3 saying posting the entire segment is his job.

“I guess he's frustrated that I didn't post the entire segment and he's saying that that's my job and I'm here to tell you that that's not my job,” GP said. “I wasn't watching Get Up, and my job isn't to promote the show or the entire segment. I saw a funny video clip of him saying there are a bunch of quarterbacks that would make sense if they weren't so famous, one of whom is me, and I posted that video – without commentary, by the way.”

Grant wasn’t sure how much he wanted to respond or engage on Twitter, although he does want to invite RG3 on the show to hash it out because he respects Griffin, but added, “I don't like being called a weasel when it's not warranted, and I don't like him saying I'm chasing clout which is preposterous.”

Danny Rouhier’s take?

“I don't know, there's some irony there. The definition that he's implying or even calling you, saying you’re behaving as such, is a deceitful or treacherous person. I don't think that's really the case here,” Danny said. “It is not your job as far as I know to edit clips from whatever program that was.”

Danny also has a little bit of a different issue.

“I've now watched the clip that he's posted, where his point is that nobody off the street is gonna be more helpful to them than Zach Wilson, which is the point he says he was trying to make all along,” Danny said, “and I don’t know what that has to do with the general manager letting him know that he knows he can still play, and you’ve got the skill set and, it's just you're too famous, you know what I mean? There’s a way to do that without necessarily being like, ‘you know, the famous guys, me and Colin, and a couple other dudes.’ That’s the reason? It’s not my play’s fault, right? It has nothing to do with that, it’s only because of my famous or whatever.”

Oh, and also:

“The larger point is none of us know the system but Zach Wilson does, so he’s their best option, is a very reasonable point,” Danny said, “but the first point is, I don't know, a little bit odd, and you could see by the reaction of the folks on the set that kind of saying this is a roundabout way of getting to a point. The reactions I think were pretty genuine, and the accusation of chasing clout, that’s the tough pill to swallow, I would day, considering the source.”

“Source aside, I don’t think that's a fair critique, and it's frustrating. Clout chasing is one of those things you throw out there and everyone that doesn't like the media says, oh, clout chaser,” Grant said. “I don't really understand what that means because I posted the video, but the idea of the weasel thing is what gets me; the name calling is silly for a guy that I've, you know, had a relationship with for a long time. I'm sure he's not always happy with everything that I've said, and you're not always gonna see eye to eye with players on everything, but very, very surprising to see that, I will say, so I was I was fascinated by that response.”
