Grant & Danny give their dream scenarios if the Commanders end up picking at No. 2

The Commanders currently have the No. 2 pick in the 2024 Draft and a 69 percent chance to have it com Monday - and as long as they match Arizona and New England and the strength of schedule holds up, they’ll be right there behind Chicago on Day 1 of the Draft ready to, most likely, grab their hopeful signal-caller of the future.

But who would that be, and most importantly, which one player (or backup choice) would you want them to take, given they’d have the choice of all but one eligible young man?

“What should happen with that if they get the pick? I think, and no one’s holding any to this because we still have a lot of studying to do, the very little of Drake Maye I’ve watched, I’ve seen Justin Herbert’s skill set,” Grant said. “But here’s what I’ll tell you: the only thing they could do to annoy me is trade up. I have no interest in trading up to No. 1 to get Caleb Williams; if he’s there at 2, take him, great, but trade-ups almost never work for bad teams that need a lot. You see people clamor for it, but absolutely not. Thy can trade back and get a boatload, I can talk myself into that, but can’t miss frequently misses…so Maye, or Williams, at 2, works best for me.

“Go back four years, we thought we had something established, and we thought Dwayne Haskins was worth pursuing – but I said at the time that the new regime, which ended up as Ron Rivera, should be able to go get their QB if they wanted,” Danny replied. “They showed us what they wanted to do and failed miserably, but this next regime gets the same carte blanche from me.”

And to Danny, it’s a ‘simple axiom’ this time.

“If you’re at the top of the draft and in the market for a QB, you take one; some hit, some miss, but you do your best. But if you’re not…please trade back and stockpile all the assets!” Danny scream-exhorted. “When everyone says how much of a crap shoot the draft is…they’re right, and we should’ve learned our lesson from 2020. There may be a generational player here and there that’s not a QB, but it’s not who you think it is. The math is on your side if you acquire multiple picks instead. They should 100 percent be taking a QB, and going elsewhere with their cap space to build the rest of the roster.”
