The Commanders drafted a running back last year in Brian Robinson, and another this year in Chris Rodriguez…but of course, Antonio Gibson, who is on the final year of his rookie deal, is also still in the mix.
Rodriguez is seen as a higher-round talent who slipped due to some off-field issues, while Robinson flashed last year and usurped Gibson’s starting role when he debuted after missing a few weeks recovering from a shooting - and in fact, Gibson was set to be the team's main return man had Robinson not lost time early in the year.
So, coming into this year, what could Gibson’s role on this team be? That’s an idea JP Finlay and Brian Mitchell discussed Friday, with JP warning that it’s not safe to assume Gibson is just going to be phased out of offensive plans.
