JP Finlay goes OFF on people mad at Eric Bieniemy yelling at practice: 'What the hell are we doing here? SHUT UP!'

We’ve got an epic rant alert, from one of those you don’t always expect to go off!

The normally laid-back, mild-mannered JP Finlay is one of the men around here plugged into the Commanders, so his takes are more informed than hot, usually – but on Thursday, he just absolutely went OFF about the notion that Eric Bieniemy yelling in practice is a bad thing.

See, producer Jeff Walker thinks Bieniemy should address it based on outside reactions…and his hosts who have played for and covered the Commanders for decades aren’t feeling it.

“I don’t want him to address the yelling,” BMitch said. “I don’t think he cares what these weak-ass people are saying. Oh, he’s talking loud to a team? That’s what oes on in the military to get them ready to go deal with what they deal with – what are you supposed to say to these guys? ‘Good job man, yeah!’”

“What I meant was I wanted to hear him say, ‘we’re getting ready for war, so if you don’t want to hear yelling, don’t come to the field,’” Jeff replied.

JP, however, is just not having any of this.

“I don’t think he should have to!” JP replied. “I don’t even think this is a thing. Who is alarmed by a football coach yelling? This happened to Jay Gruden, where people questioned his level of seriousness about football. You could question that about other things, but when it came to football, the team worked and won games. Was he a great coach? No, but it’s not like it was pattycake out here!”

And by concentrating on that yelling, people are missing what’s most important about Bieniemy running practices.

“Scott Turner wasn’t a yeller, but who is alarmed by this? People think this is the first football coach to yell? What are we even talking about?” JP said. “I recognize that it’s become a storyline, but the far greater story being missed by people being caught up in this is the pace of practice. It’s not about the yelling.”

“He’s trying to get them to pick it up, and I’m with it 100 percent,” BMitch replied.

JP then told a story about his football days, and, well, we heard HIM yell for one of the very few times!

“I was in high school football, I was terrible, and I loved Steve Efantis, who coached the scout team offense I was a part of. He would get in my face and scream, and put his whistle in his hand and hit me on the helmet,” JP said. “You know how much that rings in your ears? What the hell are we talking about – a football coach is yelling? Oh my God, alert the media! SHUT UP!”

“We’re getting a little too soft in all aspects of life,” BMitch laughed back. “You have a job where you can get hit and be hurt – you think the coach shouldn’t yell sometimes to get you to be focused? Everyone can’t deal with quietness all the time, and some people like to be loud...deal with it.”
