JUNKIES: Bish disagrees vehemently with Chris Simms' take on Commanders' top three receivers

We’ve seen a lot of rankings out there about various NFL players or position groups – and in one of them, ESPN’s Mike Clay had the Commanders’ WR room ranked 11th, just inside the top third of the league.

Chris Simms did one better, as even though he had QB Sam Howell ranked 39th of 40 NFL QBs, he’s very high on Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel, which is “about as much firepower as you’re going to find among the top three receivers on a team.”

The Washington offense could be explosive because of that trio, Simms also said, but seems like the Junkies are a little skeptical.

“Get to 24 points per game; make that improvement, and hopefully Eric Bieniemy and Sam Howell’s development is worth that amount of points,” Cakes said.

“I was listening to John Keim’s podcast, and they were saying that they’re seeing great stuff from Howell, but the bad part is a lot of balls are getting broken up by the rookies who are reputed to be ballhawks,” EB replied.

Where the skepticism comes in harder, though, is from Jason Bishop, who vehemently disagrees that the Commanders’ WR trio is up there in the stratosphere of the best.

“I would disagree with Simms about the receivers – that’s just incorrect, I’m sorry. They’re not even close to what the Eagles, Bengals, or Dolphins are,” Bish said. “McLaurin is great, but don’t give me Curtis Samuel, he hasn’t done anything.”

Cakes thinks Dotson is ready to take the next step, though, and that turned into a discussion of how Bish says Curtis Samuel hasn’t done anything, yet he thinks Miami, whose No. 3 receiver is either Cedrick Wilson Jr. or Braxton Berrios.

“It’s a Top 10 unit, and they’ve spent a lot of money in that room by giving McLaurin that extension,” Cakes said. “Saying ‘among the best’ is hyperbole by Simms.”

“But that’s untrue, though!” Bish shot back. “And that’s what we do, we nitpick things. I’m not necessarily comparing Wilson and Samuel, I’m saying 10 times out of 10 I’d rather have the Dolphins or the Eagles.”

Cakes at least agreed with that on the top two notion of McLaurin/Dotson vs. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but Bish doubled down when the clip was replayed that the Commanders’ Top 3 is ‘definitely not about as much firepower as you’ll find.’

And then, the coup de grace: "Curtis Samuel is poopy! He's done zippy in two years here!"
