JUNKIES: Are the Commanders sleeping on Mike Macdonald - and do they need to beat Seattle to the punch?

Okay, so we’ve got four candidates left (plus maybe Eric Bieniemy), and Dan Quinn maybe seems like a leader in the clubhouse now to be the next Commanders head coach – but what about Mike Macdonald, who is now getting another interview in Seattle? Is Washington sleeping on him?

Yahoo! Sports’ Brian Manning wrote an article referencing Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter’s thoughts on where Quinn and Ben Johnson would or wouldn’t end up, and revealed that Macdonald’s wife, Stephanie, is a former Redskins cheerleader who has sung the National Anthem for the Commanders.

Now that at least one of Ben Johnson to DC and Dan Quinn to Seattle hasn’t happened, as Schefty posited…are we looking at a natural match, with a connection to Eugene Shen to boot?

“The thing that really jumped out at me is that Rap said that one of the teams looking for a head coach called Macdonald ‘the best interview they’ve had by far – the defensive version of Sean McVay,’” JP said. “But he also called him a really, really strong candidate in Seattle.”

“If that’s the case, why didn’t they just hire him right away?” EB asked.

“It’s going to be a battle to land him – who comes in with the better offer?” Cakes shot back.

So yeah, about that…do the Commanders need to beat Seattle to the punch if they were the team referenced above, even if only to get their interest solidified?

“He was fast-tracked to be DC and possibly head coach with all the position increases in his tenure,” Ravens fan and insider Valdez said. “Remember how in high school they put all the smart kids in algebra and the dumb-dumbs in geometry? It’s kind of like that.”

“Well, give Aaron Glenn Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith and he’ll look great, too,” Bish sniped back.

It’s a competition between the teams supported by the guys behind the glass, and if Macdonald goes to Seattle, it’s Dan Quinn, Anthony Weaver, and Aaron Glenn for the DC job, so?

“I guess you elevate Dan Quinn to the top of the list,’ Cakes said. “Bieniemy to me is if I’m driving down I-95 and there’s a hitchhiker – unless it’s a family member, I don’t care if it’s a 90-year-old grandma, there’s no chance I’m stopping to pick them up!”
