Our man on the scene Rick Snider was on the scene for the Commanders’ sale party last Thursday, as well as the new ownership’s press conference last Friday – and when he joined the Junkies Monday morning, after a weekend to process it all…the good times were still rolling.
“These guys are six billion times better than the last guy,” Snider laughed. “I had never really heard Harris talk, and he seemed a little overwhelmed by everything, but he was very good, and you see more of an adult in the room. He’s a money guy, but you don’t take it like that when he’s talking – he seems like a guy you could have a beer with, especially if he pays.”
Snider had also never heard of Mitchell Rales, but thought he was “awesome and authentic, and the best speaker of the group – a nice guy you can gravitate to.”
And then, there’s Magic Johnson.
“He might’ve been the third-best guy that day, and what does that say?” Snider asked. “People usually just gravitate to him! But man, you see this, and you think it doesn’t have to be the dark kingdom, there may be some positivity out of all this.”
EB, who ‘hates all billionaires on principle,’ agreed, saying it was ‘nice’ to see, and that everyone was ‘likable’ and ‘appeared to be normal, compared to that weird enigma Dan Snyder.’
“When Dan Snyder met the football team for the first time…I can’t exactly say what he said, but he was one of those guys who was like a nerd who finally had the cool kids at his table, trying to be a tough guy, and they laughed at him,” Snyder revealed. “And that was his whole time – he always overcompensated, and then he just got to be mean about everything. But these guys are comfortable in their own skin, and don’t have to try to do a ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ joke.”
However, buyer (or in this case, fan) beware – it’s officially now put up or shut up time, after months of waiting to get here.
“I don’t want to cast aspersions, but for everyone who says they’re locals or stewards of the game…we’ve heard that before,” Snider said. “Now, it’s time to show what you can do.”
