DC Councilman Kenyan McDuffie tells G&D he'll advocate for the RFK 2.0 plan to be 'passed expeditiously'

We’ve had a couple of no votes for sure, or at least for now, but it seems like quite a few members of the DC Council are on board with the RFK 2.0 plan as presented by Mayor Bowser and the Commanders on Monday.

One of those is At-Large Councilman Kenyan McDuffie, who was the fourth Council member to join Grant & Danny this week, and, when he did on Friday, was the third to voice support.

And while they may not have the full scope of the deal, McDuffie knows there’s already misinformation out there from opposition, which he also wants to quickly clear up.

“I think they are rushing to judgment, and I think anytime people hear that the city is gonna spend money on something that is at the expense of our residents – and frankly, it's quite the opposite. We're talking about making an investment in the future of our city,” McDuffie said. “We're talking about prioritizing our residents when it comes to the thousands of jobs that are gonna be created by this development. The stadium is obviously the anchor, but we're talking about 180 acres of opportunity, and when planned and when done right, which is what the Mayor has sent to the Council, we're talking about transforming an area that has been dormant for decades. We’re talking about jobs, opportunities for the District’s small businesses, neighborhood-serving amenities, and housing that is affordable for people across incomes. Really, there's too much potential for this site not to be developed, and so the stadium has to be the thing that is the catalyst that spurs the rest of the development that is to come.”
