Michael Phillips and Kevin Sheehan discuss how nobody has a clue about where Jeff Bezos, Commanders sale stands

Dan Snyder put out the word that he would be accepting inquiries and hearing offers for the Washington Commanders over five months ago. In that time there have been many suitors – some serious contenders and some not so serious – and as we know now at least two official bids that have come close to his asking price of $6 billion.

However, there has not been an arrival, no package on the doorstep at the team's Ashburn facility from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. After five months, we're all still waiting for Bezos.

Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch joined the Kevin Sheehan Show on Tuesday to talk about the sale and how nobody has any clue what is going to happen next.

"So on the one hand, you clearly have people who trying to manifest Jeff Bezos [into the bidding process]," Phillips told Sheehan. "Everybody [around the NFL] wants Jeff Bezos. We've got no hints from the Bezos camp that they have any interest at all, other than them retaining the Allen [& Company] to look into it.

"On the other hand, he's notoriously secretive and private... It's a lot of smoke and self-created smoke, Kevin. But behind that is the reality that if he's interested, he's probably not going to communicate it in any way."

If one of the wealthiest people in the world does not make a move for the franchise, it could depress the value and force Snyder to take less than he truly wanted.

And, it may end up being that Bezos never appears. And that may be the final scene of Snyder's tenure as owner of the Washington franchise. The end of his tragicomedy in two acts may be yet another failure.

Putting aside that nobody knows much, Phillips did add that the indications are a sale could be announced within the next month and that a sale of $6 billion would be an overpay based on what people saw when the Commanders opened their books to the prospective bidders.
