Sam Cosmi to JP Finlay on Ravens' 24-game preseason win streak: 'Who gives a (bleep)?'

The Ravens have won an NFL record 24 straight preseason games, last falling in an exhibition game on Sept. 3, 2015 – something many pundits have labeled as a fun stat and nothing else because winning wasn’t really the sole goal in those 24 games.

Know who else cares not about that line? Commanders guard Sam Cosmi, who talked to JP Finlay at practice on Saturday and told JP that, well, it’s ‘stupid.’

“I think it’s a stupid record. Who gives a (expletive) about preseason games?” Cosmi said. “If we beat it, great.”

Maybe some bulletin board material, maybe not?

“If I were on the Ravens, I’d see it as sense of pride,” Brian Mitchell said after JP played the clip Monday. “I understand people from other teams thinking it’s nothing, and that’s probably how they should think, but for a team that lives in the playoffs, there’s probably a direct correlation to starting fast – and if you don’t think it’s serious, you better not go out there and let them embarrass you! If he goes out there and gets his ass whipped, Ravens players will be on him.”

“I think he was reacting in the moment,” JP replied. “I wonder if it was Week 3, a regular-season game, everyone would be all over it?”

“I guarantee you that someone in the media heard it, and is going to ask a player about it,” BMitch shot back. “Then other players will discuss it, and if they happen to get a bigger play, they’ll let us know about it. Somebody is going to make sure it gets into that locker room.”

Baltimore is likely not playing Lamar Jackson, and maybe not a lot of other starters, so if 24-0 becomes 24-1, how much does it really mean?

“Part of this streak you have to figure is that a lot of the people who played a role in this, never played a minute in the regular season,” JP said.

“You really don’t want to lose to them if they don’t play anybody,” BMitch replied. “We in the media think the second game is the dress rehearsal, but ultimately, it’s not. You can see how people are approaching it, but you always feel like in that situation, you want to go out and show yourself – but if that’s not it, who cares? But, if they take pride in it, that’s something they used to galvanize them.”
