Eric Bickel didn't take kindly to some of Chris Simms' assertions in a video detailing the NFL analyst's 2021 NFL Mock Draft.
The Sports Junkies host dismissed one of Simms' predictions out of hand, that the Washington Football Team will be the first team in the draft to trade up, moving up 11 spots to select North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance eighth overall.
In the video, Simms estimated a trade to eight with the Panthers might cost Washington "a swapping of this first round, next year's first round and probably some other stuff to go along with it."
"He doesn't even know anything about draft capital," Bickel claimed after hearing Simms. "That was the most vague thing. He has no idea what it would cost to move up to eight."
"Trey Lance sitting there, big time talent," Simms explained in the video. "The Washington Football Team, Ron Rivera, the way they're setting it up with Norv Turner's son. I'm blanking on his first name. I have so many damn names in my head."
"Their history with Cam Newton. Trey Lance can be that type of quarterback," Simms said. "Yes, he might not be ready right now. Okay, we've got Ryan Fitzpatrick. He can sit here for a year, learn. Those type of things."
"In his description," John-Paul Flaim noted, "he said they have 'some things' and he said 'stuff.' It wasn't that great."
"Yeah, it was vague," Bickel said. "He does about as much homework as Cakes."
"He also didn't know Scott Turner's name," chimed producer Matt Valdez, mentioning how Simms referred to Washington's offensive coordinator as 'Norv Turner's son.'
"I mean believe me, that guy's phoning it in," Bickel said. "Chris Simms is phoning it in."
Bickel's next gripe was with Simms projecting Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields to plummet in the draft, falling all the way to the back of the first round at 32. That led to Bickel making a bold assertion of his own, one we're not quite sure we can even put in print (so you'll have to watch for yourself in the video above).
"You're crushing him," Cakes said after Bickel lobbed a battery of verbal grenades at Simms.
"I guess we're never having Chris Simms on the show," Jason Bishop observed.
