MADISON, Wis. -- Highly-touted quarterback recruit Graham Mertz has had Badgers football fans clamoring for a freshman phenom under center since he announced he'd be joining Wisconsin. August 5, 2019 The Badgers still have a little more than three weeks to make an official decision on QB1 when they open the 2019 season at South Florida. But, for now, it seems that head coach Paul Chryst prefers to give his most experienced collegiate passer a chance to lose the starting job before giving a younger guy a chance to win it.
