Bills make several roster moves ahead of Wild Card matchup with Jaguars

Buffalo shuffled the roster around and added some depth to the practice squad

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills have shuffled around their roster and added some depth to their practice squad in the days leading up to Sunday's AFC Wild Card Round matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium.

With rookie cornerback Max Hairston unlikely to play Sunday due to an injury suffered in the final game of the regular season, the Bills have signed cornerback Dane Jackson to the active 53-man roster.

Jackson was last activated by the Bills ahead of their Week 15 matchup against the New England Patriots, and will now provide more depth in the defensive backs room.

In a corresponding move to make room for Jackson on the roster, the Bills have placed defensive tackle Jordan Phillips on Injured Reserve.

With a couple of openings on the 16-man practice squad, the Bills have brought back quarterback Shane Buechele, while also adding another cornerback Daryl Porter Jr.

With injuries to quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew for the final two weeks of the season, the Chiefs signed Buechele off the Bills' practice squad in order to be a backup to Chris Oladokun.

As for Porter Jr., he re-joins the Bills after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent this past offseason. After being waived by the Bills early in training camp, Porter Jr. was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent most of the season on their practice squad.

Meanwhile, with uncertainty surrounding Matt Prater's right quad injury, the Bills have brought in some insurance by signing kicker Matthew Wright to the practice squad.

Wright has been with three teams this season - Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans - where he's a perfect 5-for-5 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra point attempts this season. If Prater's injury does keep him out on Sunday, the Bills have a trusted leg who has a career-long field goal of 59 yards.

To make room for Wright on the practice squad, the Bills released offensive lineman Richard Gouraige.

Moreover, the Bills have also looked toward the future with their kicking situation, signing Maddux Trujillo to a Reserve/Future contract. Trujillo will not be able to kick for the Bills until next season.
