Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - It's an end of an era for the Buffalo Bills and Highmark Stadium.
In, what is likely, the final game played at the stadium they have called home since 1973, the Bills dominated the New York Jets from start-to-finish, mainly playing backups, in a 35-8 win in Orchard Park.
The Bills received the opening kickoff, with quarterback Josh Allen taking the field for the opening snap. However, that's all Allen needed to keep his consecutive starts streak alive, as he handed off to running back James Cook and then gave way for backup Mitch Trubisky.
Cook was also able to pad his rushing stats just a bit, accounting for 15 yards on a pair of carries as he looked to secure his spot as the NFL's leading rusher in 2025.
Trubisky was able to cap off the opening drive of the game with a touchdown, finding tight end Dawson Knox in the end zone for a 17-yard score.
The Jets offense, led by rookie quarterback Brady Cook, was dysfunctional, even against the Bills' backups, and were unable to get anything going until much later in the contest.
Even though the Bills offense sputtered a bit on their second drive, they got back on the scoring track early in the second quarter. Running back Ty Johnson got the Bills on the board again with a six-yard run from the Wildcat formation.
After the Jets were stopped on a fourth down, the Bills capitalized on the ensuing drive with a touchdown, as Trubisky found running back Ray Davis from two yards out.
The Jets wrapped up the first half by only getting as far as the Bills' 41-yard line before electing to punt back to Buffalo with 36 seconds left on the clock. Buffalo then kneeled out the clock to take a 21-0 lead into the locker room.
The third quarter continued to be much of the same for the Jets, as they completely fell apart on the opening drive and went four-and-out and turned the ball over on downs.
Trubisky and the Bills capitalized once again on their opening drive of the half, chewing 5:03 off the clock in 11 plays, ending with a two-yard completion to wide receiver Gabe Davis on fourth down, as he "Moss'd" the Jets defender in the back of the end zone.
Buffalo experienced a wrinkle in the game plan when kicker Matt Prater exited the game after aggravating his right quad injury. The Bills elected to stay on the field and go for a two-point-conversion, which Trubisky found Coleman at the boundary for a successful attempt.
As the game bled into the fourth quarter, the Bills continued to run all over the Jets, as Davis popped a big run early to get Buffalo back into New York territory. As the Bills marched into the red zone, Trubisky found Johnson on a six-yard pass in the end zone, and the running back was able to cash in on a $250,000 touchdown incentive.
Buffalo attempted another two-point conversion, being down Prater, but was unsuccessful, making the score 35-0 with 12:05 to go.
The Jets finally scored a touchdown with time ticking away in the fourth quarter. Cook found Andrew Beck for a two-yard score, and tacked on a two-point conversion of their own to make it a 35-8 score,
From there, the Bills were able to kill off the remaining 7:33 on the clock, securing the dominating victory and allowing fans to revel in the moment and send off Highmark Stadium in style.
