McDermott believes Bills' grit, mental toughness was on display against Dolphins

Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following his team's win over Miami on Thursday night

Orchard Park, NY (WGR Sports Radio 550) - It was a more difficult matchup than maybe most predicted, but the Buffalo Bills manage to find a way to beat their AFC East rival Miami Dolphins, 31-21, on Thursday night at Highmark Stadium.

Despite some struggles on defense throughout the contest, the Bills were able to make just enough big plays, while Josh Allen and the offense put up the points needed on the board to help put Buffalo ahead.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott knew it would take grit to finish off a divisional opponent like the Dolphins, who showed some desperation in their play, despite the loss.

"I thought the grit, the mental toughness of our football team was on display throughout the game, in particular in the fourth quarter," said McDermott following Thursday night's win.

The Bills were able to seal the deal on a win with a 48-yard field goal from kicker Matt Prater late in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn't have been possible to put the game out of reach had it not been for linebacker Terrel Bernard coming up with a clutch interception of Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

"Last week, we had two examples of a similar type of indicator, and we didn't see it. That's growth and development," McDermott said. "These players have done a phenomenal job of being coachable like 'TB' [Bernard]."
