McDermott: 'Great job by the staffs' in victory over Detroit

Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following his group's 48-42 victory over the Lions

Detroit, Mich. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Despite Sunday's game in Detroit morphing into a track meet, the Buffalo Bills managed to come out on top of a 48-42 win over the Lions at Ford Field.

This victory was a great way to bounce back after coming out on the wrong end of a high-scoring affair with the Los Angeles Rams. Bills head coach Sean McDermott called this effort in Detroit a complete team effort.

"I thought the entire offense and offensive staff did a lot of good things. Coming out and being able to run the football was important for us, credit to our offensive line. It's everyone: Tight ends, wide receivers blocking, and the running backs," said McDermott during his postgame comments after the win. "I thought Joe [Brady] did a good job changing some things up, and Bobby [Babich] as well. So great job by the staffs."

Injuries were a big story for the Buffalo defense heading into this matchup, with many starters inactive in the secondary. With safeties Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp both unable to go on Sunday, rookie Cole Bishop, who was Buffalo's second-round pick this year, was called upon to make his second start of the season.

"You're seeing Cole Bishop out there, a rookie who had a rocky first game. And the thing I love about Cole is he has upped his urgency, in terms of his preparation week-after-week," McDermott said. "Then he was making an impact on special teams, and then his number gets called. I thought, without looking at the film, he looked like he knew his job. And there were some plays there I'm sure that he's going to learn from."
