The high school football season will kick off under the lights Friday night for most teams across the Upstate. The opening slate of games for Week 0 features matchups featuring ranked teams.
The Byrnes Rebels start the season just outside of the State Preseason Top 10 in 5A. The Rebs will travel to the "Electric City" of Anderson to tangle with 7th ranked TL Hanna.
Word out of the "Peach City" of Gaffney is that the Indians are loaded and ready coming into this seasons. Gaffney sits at #2 in the 5A poll to open the season. Gaffney Head Coach Dan Jones has already announced this will be his last year at the helm.
The Indians offense will feature transfer QB Jayvon Gilmore. The highly touted Junior prospect has verbally committed to Arkansas. The Indians will travel to Greenville to take on JL Mann, who is coming off a historic season in 2023.
In 4A, defending State Champions Westside is ranked #1 to open 2024. The Rams will host Creekside High from Fairburn Georgia on Saturday night.
Class 4A's #3 ranked team Daniel will host #5 (3A) Chapman Friday night. The Lions are coming off the 3A State Title in 2023 and have now been moved up to 4A.
The Spartanburg Vikings are just outside of the 5A Preseason Top 10. They have a chance to catapult into the rankings with a win in the season opener. However, they will have to go on the road and knock off 4A's 4th ranked team South Pointe- Rock Hill.
