Byrnes Basketball Debuts TONIGHT on The Fan Upstate
DUNCAN, S.C. — Byrnes High School basketball makes its season debut on The Fan Upstate tonight as the 2-0 Runnin’ Rebels travel to face 2-3 Greer in a non-region matchup. Byrnes has won the last three meetings in the series, with the last Greer victory coming on Dec. 5, 2023.
Byrnes enters the game following wins over Keenan (58-49) and Legacy Early College (72-60). The Rebels finished last season 24-4, advancing to the playoffs before falling to Blythewood.
Greer has wins over Carolina Academy and Woodruff, and losses to Woodmont, Fountain Inn, and Powdersville.
Tonight’s matchup features a unique father-son storyline on both benches. Byrnes head coach Layne Fowler, in his 17th season, will coach his son, Colt Fowler, while Greer head coach Ricky Hood Jr. will lead his son, Ricky Hood III. Hood Jr., the older brother of former NBA player Rodney Hood, is in his first season at Greer.
Broadcast coverage of tonight’s game can be found on The Fan Upstate — 97.1 FM in Spartanburg, 97.7 FM in Greenville, online at TheFanUpstate.com, and on the Audacy and iHeartRadio apps.
