Byrnes Boys and Landrum Girls fall short in State Finals Friday

Friday, marked day 1 of the South Carolina High School Basketball State Finals. The opening day saw a four game total slate in the 2A and 4A classes. To start things off, Landrum's Girls fell in the quest for the program's 1st ever State Title.

The Lady Cardinals were up three after the 1st, but Andrew Jackson would take control as the game went on. Landrum fell 78-60 in a fast paced affair to Andrew Jackson. The Lady Cards got a combined 38 points from Kylee Fortner and Savannah Brown in the losing effort. Landrum finishes their season at 27-4.

The Byrnes Rebels Boys team had won 15 straight games and hadn't lost since December coming into the 5A Finals at the Florence Center, Friday night.

The Rebels usually balanced multiple option offensive weapons style was neutralized. Will Fowler had a big game for Byrnes with 26, but he accounted for 20 of their 22 in the 1st half. Byrnes came in with 3 players averaging double figures. Lexington would pull away late in the 3rd quarter and would win 67-48 capturing the program's 1st State Title since 2000.

Saturday marks the 2nd and final day of action in Florence. The GSP Area is well represented in the finals. Christ Church Boys are in the 1A Finals at Noon, Wren's Girls take on Camden and SC Commit Joyce Edwards in 3A.

The dark horse Powdersville Boys are playing their best and will be in the 3A Boys Finals. Then in 4A both Riverside's Girls and Boys will play for the "Big, Gold Trophy". The girls take on AC Flora, the boys tangle with 2022 State Champs Ridge View in the nightcap.
