South Carolina Native And NASCAR Legend Dies at 84

A South Carolina native and one of NASCAR's all time greats has died. NASCAR Chairman Jim France released a statement New Year's Even confirming that legendary driver Cale Yarborough died.

Yarborough was raised in the Timmonsville area of South Carolina's Pee Dee Region. He made his NASCAR debut in 1957 at the Southern 500 in Darlington. Yarborough's career spanned parts of four decades, as he ran his last NASCAR race in the 1988 Atlanta Journal 500. His last win came in the 1985 Miller High 500 in Charlotte.

Cale Yarbrough is in the top 10 for all time NASCAR wins with 83 and he won the Cup Series three times. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall Of Fame in 2012.

Cale Yarborough was 84 years old.
