(670 The Score) Just days after signing him to a minor league deal, the Cubs have called up outfielder Carlos Gonzalez from Triple-A Iowa. He will start in right field and hit fifth when the Cubs host the Angels at Wrigley Field on Monday afternoon.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs designated first baseman Jim Adduci for assignment.
Gonzalez, 33, was released by the Indians recently after hitting .210 with two homers, seven RBIs and a .558 OPS in 117 plate appearances across 30 games. He was 2-of-8 with a homer in two games at Triple-A over the weekend.
The vision for the Cubs in an ideal situation is for Gonzalez to provide a quality left-handed bat off a bench, as Daniel Descalso has struggled mightily and Ben Zobrist remains away from the team on a leave of absence.
Gonzalez is a three-time All-Star who spent the previous 10 years in Colorado before joining Cleveland in 2019.
