(670 The Score) Bears running back Tarik Cohen has been one of the most vocal supporters for top receiver Allen Robinson to receive a contract extension in Chicago.
But it was Cohen who landed a new deal over the weekend, signing a three-year, $17.25-million contract extension that keeps him with the Bears through 2023. With his future now secure, Cohen plans to keep pushing for Robinson to receive an extension of his own.
"Regardless of if I got mine or not, it's definitely time for him to get his," Cohen said. "I even left some money on the plate. I took less so he could get more, so to say. Yeah, I would definitely love to see my boy get extended. He means a lot to this team."
Cohen later tweeted he was joking about leaving more money on the table for Robinson.
Now in his fourth season, the 25-year-old Cohen has averaged 4.1 yards per rushing attempt while scoring five rushing touchdowns in his career. He has added 206 receptions for 1,555 yards and nine receiving touchdowns while also playing a key role as a returner.
As Robinson used social media to express frustrations over his contract situation last week, Cohen tweeted #ExtendAR and created an apparent Twitter campaign for his teammate. Robinson, 27, is playing the final season of his initial three-year, $42-million deal that he signed with the Bears in March 2018.
Cohen on Monday again tweeted in support of Robinson: #Extend12.
"I feel like he's deserving of a new contract," Cohen said last week of his tweets. "He's deserving of an extension. He exemplifies the meaning of being a teammate. On and off the field, he's a great leader in our locker room. The team just wouldn't be the same without him. So I feel like it's that fair to get this deal done."
