(670 The Score) The Cubs designated reliever Dan Winkler for assignment amid a series of roster moves Tuesday.
Winkler, 31, had a 5.22 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 47 appearances this season. He had been shelled lately, giving up 12 earned runs across his last three outings, over which he logged just 1 2/3 innings.
In other moves, the Cubs selected the contract of outfielder Michael Hermosillo from Triple-A Iowa, while reliever Kyle Ryan was outrighted and elected free agency.
Hermosillo, 26, was performing at a high level at Triple-A, where he hit .310 with 10 homers, 29 RBIs and a 1.048 OPS in 42 games.
The Cubs designated Ryan for assignment last week after he posted a 6.75 ERA in 13 appearances this season.
