(670 The Score) The Cubs made some major changes to their roster this offseason, not only parting ways with some organizational mainstays but also adding in new pieces.
There's a different vibe around the Cubs this season, outfielder Jason Heyward said. It's part of why he's eager for the 2021 campaign with this team.
"It is nice to have a different mix, a different vibe so to speak," Heyward said on the Laurence Holmes Show on Monday. "When I say that, I think some guys who were here like (first baseman Anthony Rizzo) in '14 and years prior to '15, having guys come in from other organizations that are hungry and want to win, looking for their chance to establish themselves -- whether it's maybe a multi-year deal, whether it's going to the postseason for the first time or have new life in the postseason.
"We have a very exciting group when it comes to that because you got guys that have had experience going into the postseason, you got guys hungry to come back and have great years when it comes to health, on the pitching side and position player-wise.
"It's just something everyone can't see. There's the stuff that's out there of money this, money that. It didn't seem like we were going to make a lot of moves and whatnot. But I would say our roster is constructed pretty well right now.
"You got world champions, you got All-Stars, you got Gold Glovers, you got guys that have done a lot of special things late into the year. There's some experience in that. Jelling that together is going to be a lot of fun."
While losing key players like ace Yu Darvish, left-hander Jon Lester and outfielder Kyle Schwarber, the Cubs added right-hander Zach Davies, right-hander Jake Arrieta and outfielder Joc Pederson.
The Cubs host the Pirates on April 1 in their season opener.
