(Audacy) Guardians slugger Josh Naylor put the league on notice with an historic breakout game Monday night.
Naylor erupted for two home runs and eight RBIs during the final four innings of the Guardians' wild 12-9 comeback win over the White Sox in 11 innings in Chicago.
After an RBI double in the eighth inning, Naylor clubbed a dramatic two-out, game-tying grand slam off White Sox closer Liam Hendriks in the ninth. He then popped a go-ahead three-run homer off right-hander Ryan Burr in the 11 inning.
Naylor became the first player in MLB history with eight RBIs in the eighth inning or later, according to ESPN. He also became the first player with two homers of three or more runs in the ninth inning or later.
Naylor, who missed most of last season with a brutal leg injury, was notably amped up after his second round-tripper. He pumped his arms coming around the bases, then fired his helmet at the bat rack upon reaching the dugout.
Naylor's contributions helped to cap a stunning six-run rally in a game that seemed well in Chicago's control for the first eight frames. The White Sox led 8-2 going into the ninth inning.
Naylor is slashing .338/.370/.574 with four home runs and 21 RBIs in 73 plate appearances this season.
Cleveland teammate Franmil Reyes called the performance "legendary."
Baseball fans and journalists on social media seemed to agree.
