White Sox ace Lance Lynn finishes 3rd in American League Cy Young voting

(670 The Score) White Sox ace Lance Lynn finished third in the American League Cy Young voting, the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Wednesday evening.

Lynn garnered 11 third-place votes, five fourth-place votes and five fifth-place votes to amass 48 points. Blue Jays left-hander Robbie Ray won the award, earning 29 of the 30 first-place votes and posting 207 points. Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole was the Cy Young runner-up, drawing one first-place vote and 29 second-place votes.


Lynn, 34, went 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 157 innings across 28 starts. This marked the third straight year that Lynn drew Cy Young votes, as he finished fifth in the race in 2019 and sixth in 2020 while with the Rangers.

Ray went 13-7 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 193 1/3 innings across 32 starts. Cole went 16-8 with a 3.23 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 181 1/3 innings in 30 starts.

White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon finished fifth in the Cy Young voting, while closer Liam Hendriks placed eighth. Rodon has entered free agency.
