Rick Hahn: Michael Kopech in a 'good spot' in recovery from hamstring strain

There remains no set timetable for Kopech's return to action, but he's getting closer.

(670 The Score) White Sox right-hander Michael Kopech is in a "good spot" as he continues to recover from a hamstring strain he suffered in late May, general manager Rick Hahn said Wednesday, but there remains no set timetable for his return.

"Hamstrings are tricky. We've seen it throughout the league," Hahn said of Kopech, according to the Athletic. "The moment he went down, I thought it was something far worse than whatever we're going to wind up dealing with here, a three- or five-week or whatever, hamstring strain. He feels good. There's just one little spot in his delivery where he feels it a little bit, and we're not going to mess around. Until he 100% feels nothing in his delivery, we're just going to continue to treat and progress until we get there. But he's in a good spot. There's not long-term concern."

Kopech has a 1.72 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 14 appearances, including three starts.

In other injury notes, Hahn is "optimistic" that star center fielder Luis Robert (hip) and slugger Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) will return late in the season. Robert suffered a grade 3 strain of his right hip flexor in early May. At that time, the White Sox ruled him out of baseball activities for at least 12 weeks, which means he could perhaps ramp up in August if all goes well.

Earlier this week, doctors cleared Jimenez to resume baseball activities. He'll engage in those at the team's complex in Arizona for at least four weeks and perhaps more, then embark on a rehab assignment.

"It's trending the right way, Luis is trending the right way," Hahn said, per the Athletics. "Certainly very optimistic that both will contribute this year."

There remains no set timetable for Kopech's return to action, but he's getting closer.
