(AUDACY) The White Sox may be without All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson for the final games of the regular season.
MLB announced Wednesday that it suspended Anderson for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount for making contact with umpire Tim Timmons in a benches-clearing incident during in the White Sox's win against the Tigers on Monday.
Anderson is appealing the suspension and was in the lineup Wednesday evening.
During the ninth inning Monday, Detroit reliever Alex Lange hit Chicago star José Abreu in the arm. Later in the inning, Abreu slid aggressively into second base, which led to the benches clearing.
No punches were thrown, but there was some pushing and shoving in the scrum before it de-escalated.

Timmons was the umpire who restrained Abreu from further escalation. It was hard to see from the footage just how much contact Anderson made with Timmons.
The White Sox clinched the AL Central last week, so if Anderson does serve a suspension, it won't have a significant impact on the playoff race.
