(670 The Score) White Sox starting catcher Yasmani Grandal is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering a torn tendon in his left knee, the team announced Tuesday.
Grandal has been placed on the 10-day injured list. He suffered the injury in the sixth inning of the team's 8-5 loss to the Twins on Monday evening. He went down to the ground after checking his swing, and he writhed on the field in pain. Grandal was helped off the field without putting weight on his left side, but he later did walk under his own power in the dugout.
The team initially cited a left calf strain as the ailment Monday before further evaluations revealed the torn tendon.

Grandal is hitting .188 with 14 homers, 38 RBIs and an .824 OPS in 63 games this season. Zack Collins will be the primary catcher while Grandal is out, and the White Sox also recalled 27-year-old catcher Seby Zavala from Triple-A. Zavala appeared in five games for the White Sox back in 2019, which is the extent of his MLB experience.
Grandal is one of many key White Sox players to go down with a serious injury this season. The White Sox are also playing without slugger Eloy Jimenez (pectoral), center fielder Luis Robert (hip) and second baseman Nick Madrigal (hamstring). The hope is Jimenez and Robert can return late in the season, while Madrigal has already been ruled out for the year.
