GAINESVILLE - An armed woman was discovered barricaded in a hotel room bathroom Monday, and was shot by a deputy after refusing to drop a weapon.
Alachua County Sheriff's deputies responded to a well-being check at the LaQuinta Inn on NW 69th Terrace. According to a release from the sheriff's office, hotel management advised deputies they were unable to access a room, and worried for the well-being of an occupant not seen since Saturday.
Deputies forced entry into the room with assistance from Alachua County Fire Rescue, and noticed an empty holster on a bed. The suspect was barricaded in a bathroom, and was ordered to drop her weapon. The suspect was shot, and transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries.
The deputy was not identified, and has been placed on administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and ACSO Office of Professional Standards are both conducting investigations.
