GRAND BLANC (WWJ) An active shooter opened fire at a church in Grand Blanc Township, police said, leaving multiple victims.
The Grand Blanc Township Police Department said, in a social media statement, the scene is unfolding at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McCandlish near Holly Road this morning, Sunday, September 28.
Police confirmed “multiple victims.” They did not release the conditions of the victims, or if there were any deaths.
The “shooter is down” as of 11:12 a.m, according to police.
“There is no threat to the public at this time,” they wrote.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said state, local, county and federal authorities are at the scene. And the church is on fire, as can be seen in social media images.
"The entire church is on fire...this is a dynamic scene..." Swanson said in a video statement to the media. "Everyone has been evacuated."
The onsite reunification site is the pavilion to the north of the church. Off-site reunification will take place at the Trillium Theater at Holly and McCandlish.
Authorities ask the public to avoid the area of the church as it's still an actively developing scene.
Grand Blanc Township Police are slated to hold a media update later this afternoon.
