GRAND BLANC (WWJ) -- An active shooter opened fire at a Mormon church in Grand Blanc Township, police said, killing at least two and injuring eight others.
Authorities said the church was also set on fire.
Grand Blanc Township Police said it unfolded during services at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on McCandlish near Holly, on Sunday, September 28, at 10:25 a.m. The suspect, who is also dead, has been identified as a 40-year-old man from Burton.
"(The suspect) drove his vehicle through the front door of the church, he then exited his vehicle, firing several rounds at individuals within the church," Police Chief William Renye said.

First responders rushed ten people to the hospital, where two of them died from gunshot wounds. Renye said a "couple of the victims" are in critical condition. The rest are in stable condition. Their names and ages were not released.

According to police, officers trained in active shooter response responded and "exchanged gunfire" with the suspect, who was armed with an assault rifle.
He was killed.
Police said, during the active shooting, a large fire broke out at the church in an area where people were located and likely could not escape.
"We believe that fire was deliberately set by the suspect," Renye said. "We do believe we will find additional victims once that scene is secured."
Renye said state, local, county and federal investigators responded to the scene including Michigan State Police, the ATF and the FBI. The FBI has devoted 100 agents to the case. They will now begin the process of collecting witness statements, obtaining a search warrant for the suspect's home, and finding a potential motive.
Police believe there is no threat to the public.
As of 3:55 p.m., Grand Blanc Township Police said they are still working "this incredibly catastrophic scene."
Family members of the victims can call the following number if they are looking for their loved one(s): 248-705-7352. It will connect them to the Red Cross. Police ask that only direct family members call the number.
The reunification site is at the Trillium Theater on Trillium Circle Avenue at Holly and McCandlish.
In a social media video update, Renye said counselors will be available at the Grand Blanc Township Police Department, from 8a-8 p.m. on Monday until Friday, for anyone who needs support.
Grand Blanc Township are slated to provide an additional update around 5 p.m.
