Nurse practitioners are projected to be the fastest-growing U.S. occupation from 2025 to 2035, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its latest employment projections.
The BLS estimates nurse practitioner jobs will rise 41%, or about 137,800 positions. Healthcare and energy roles dominate the top 10. The agency projects the overall economy will add 5.9 million jobs over the decade, lifting employment from 170.3 million to 176.2 million — a 3.5% increase, slower than the prior 10 years.
According to the BLS, an aging population is expected to boost demand for health and social services. “The likelihood of experiencing health complications increases with age,” the agency wrote, pointing to home health and personal care as well as clinical roles.
The rest of the fastest-growing list, as reported by the BLS tables: solar photovoltaic installers, 36.5% (about 11,300 jobs); data scientists, 34.6% (95,400); wind turbine technicians, 29.5% (3,500); medical and health services managers, 24.2% (155,100 added, the largest raw gain on the list); physical therapist assistants, 23% (26,200); psychiatric technicians, 22.3% (36,000); computer and information research scientists, 21.8% (8,400); occupational therapy assistants, 21.5% (11,200); and ophthalmic medical technicians, 21.4% (15,500).
The BLS said demand for electricity is expected to grow significantly, supporting solar and wind technician jobs. Data science growth tracks research and technology needs.
The figures are national projections, not local hiring announcements. They describe expected demand if current trends hold, not guaranteed openings in Dallas–Fort Worth.
