“I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the Great State of Georgia,” said President Donald Trump in a Friday Truth Social post.
Rep. Greene has been one of the most outspoken and controversial members of the “Make America Great Again” movement and is known for being a stalwart supporter of Trump. However, that’s been changing in recent months.
Last month, Audacy reported that conservative commentator Laura Loomer predicted that Greene would “try to rebrand as a Democrat” after Trump “refused” to endorse her Senate and gubernatorial runs in Georgia. In his post, Trump said “all I see ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!” and that “It seemed to all begin when I sent her a Poll stating that she should not run for Senator, or Governor, she was at 12%, and didn’t have a chance (unless, of course, she had my Endorsement — which she wasn’t about to get!).”
He also said that Greene has “told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic’s call every day.”
CBS News reported that Trump pushed back Monday against criticism from Greene, who said he was “paying too much attention to foreign affairs and not enough to the rising cost of living at home.”
Earlier this year, Greene was critical of Trump’s decision to launch airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen. She was also one of just four House Republicans who voted along with Democrats to sign a “discharge petition” to force a vote on releasing all documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Trump was one of the many famous and powerful people that Epstein – a financier and convicted sex offender who died in prison in 2019 – was known to associate with before his downfall. As CNN noted this week, Trump’s MAGA base has actually been calling for the Epstein files to be released for some time. Yet, his administration has resisted and served to “deepen the huge suspicions that a large number of Americans already harbor about the government covering up Epstein-related matters.”
This Wednesday, House committee released thousands of documents related to Epstein, “many of them emails the convicted sex offender sent to his rich or influential friends, or to reporters, over many years,” Audacy station WCCO News Talk reported. Some of those emails mentioned Trump.
“I believe the women, and the women have said over and over again that Donald Trump did nothing wrong,” Greene told CBS Mornings this week. “Even Virginia Giuffre said it under oath, and she wrote it in her book. And so if we listen to the women, they say Donald Trump has done nothing wrong.”
However, her view seemed to shift after Trump’s post.
“It really makes you wonder what is in those files and who and what country is putting so much pressure on him?” she said in a Saturday X post. “I forgive him and I will pray for him to return to his original MAGA promises.”
Newsweek said that the rift between Greene and Trump “marks a rare and significant fissure within the MAGA movement, where loyalty to Trump has long been the defining currency.” It also noted that “Greene has served as one of Trump’s most influential surrogates, amplifying his message across the hard-right base and shaping grassroots activism.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s post was dismissive of Greene’s influence in Georgia.
“I understand that wonderful, Conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics and, if the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support,” he said. “She has gone Far Left, even doing The View, with their Low IQ Republican hating Anchors.”
