UPDATE: The Nationals traded Juan Soto to the Padres after this story's publication.
Juan Soto may not be with the Washington Nationals this time tomorrow. Or he just may be.
Whether or not Soto winds up getting dealt before MLB's trade deadline on Tuesday at 6 p.m. remains to be seen, but it sure was fitting seeing him homer off of Mets' starter Max Scherzer — another core piece of Washington's 2019 World Series team, who happened to be traded at last year's deadline — Monday night. Soto took his former Nationals teammate to deep center field to lead off the fourth inning in front of 29,034 fans.
It was Soto's first homer since the All-Star break (when he won the Home Run Derby).
Soto went on to have a banner evening at Nats Park, going 1-for-1 with a homer, a stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI with three walks in four plate appearances.
As a reminder, Soto is only 23 years old.
The Nationals went on to lose, 7-3.
