UPDATE: The Nationals traded Juan Soto to the Padres after this story's publication.
Juan Soto's full arsenal was on display in Monday night's game against the Mets, in which he went 1-for-1 with one home run, one stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored with three walks.
It may have been his final game in a Nationals uniform, as the most coveted target on the trade market ahead of Tuesday's deadline, a possibility that wasn't lost on the 29,034 fans in attendance at Nationals Park.
After last night's game, Soto is averaging getting on base in more than four out of every 10 at-bats on the season (.408 OBP).
It felt like an oddly important night 104 games into a 69-loss season. So much so, Soto was given a standing ovation from Nats fans after drawing a walk (his third of the game) from Mets lefty Joely Rodriguez in the bottom of the eighth, in what proved to be his final plate appearence of the game.
Soto stole second base one batter later.
Soto, who said the night before that he just wants to get whatever is going to happen with him over with, told reporters after Monday's loss that, while thankful to Washington fans for their warm reception, it felt peculiar being welcomed so graciously when nothing's actually happened yet.
Soto still has more than two full seasons of control left on his contract.
The trade deadline is Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
