Chris Russell calls Sunday WORST Washington football performance in modern era

Chris Russell has a bit of a breakdown over what he is calling the worst performance the Washington football organization has had in the modern era after the Week 3 loss to the Buffalo Bills based on these three metrics: The Commanders allowed 37 points in a 37-3 defeat, allowed nine sacks and Commanders turned the ball over five times (four interceptions and a fumble).

"Yesterday takes the cake," Russell said of Sunday's loss. "According to Pro Football Reference and Stathead, never - EVER - in the history of the Washington NFL franchise had they allowed 37 or more points, nine or more sacks, five or more turnovers. Never. Ever. And maybe that doesn't surprise you. It doesn't surprise me. Because it is really hard. It is really hard to be that damn bad. To be that putrid. To be that awful. To be that overmatched. To be that dreadful. To be that dominated."

So Russell is saying the Commanders were really bad on Sunday. The only game that came close was an Oct. 2002 loss to New Orleans, a 43-27 defeat at FedEx Field a game that was actually only an eight-point game at the half.

"It is a horrendous loss. Don't chalk this up to 'well, tough day at the office,'" Russell said. "No, it is a horrendous loss. It's an embarrassment. It's an annihilation. It's a humiliation. But it is just one loss. The problem is, we know the problems that were highlighted yesterday – both turnovers and sacks – are not just one game [problems]. We know that they are at the very minimum two games and parts of three games. That's the problem. That reality sacks allowed, whoever's at fault, and turnovers, those two things combined have been an overwhelming of 2.5 of the 3 games so far.

"And if they don't get it figured out and I mean figured out in a hurry. They have zero chance, zero chance against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday."

Worst of all, if it isn't figured out soon, they could struggle agianst the "putrid" Chicago Bears in Week 5, Russell added.
