Kevin Sheehan grades Sam Howell's Week 6 performance in Atlanta

For the "Box Score Charlies" out there the numbers do not look too kind for the Washington Commanders' Sam Howell. The second-year quarterback making his seventh NFL start completed just 14 of 23 passes for 151 yards (6.6 yards per attempt). But he did have three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 119.7 passer rating. However, he was sacked five more times for a loss of 30 yards and finished with a 37.0 QBR.

On the day, Howell took advantage of short fields with his three touchdown drives coming on drives of 11, 52 and 27 yards. And outside of the opening 12-play, 56-yard drive that netted a field goal, the Washington offense did not have a drive of more than 25 yards.

Their other seven possessions on Sunday ended in drives of 13, -10, 8, 15, 21, -6 and 2 yards before the kneel down to end the game. And Washington's final four drives all resulted in punts.

So how well did Howell actually do helping the Commanders snap a three-game losing streak and get to 3-3 on the season with his second road win of the season, 24-16, over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday?

Kevin Sheehan goes over Howell's performance calling it "more good than bad."

"I thought that there were just a lot of really good plays," Sheehan said of Howell's play, pointing out a few good throws and the opening drive, especially. "He's learned going back to the Buffalo game that third-and-16... that was a smart good play."

The full conversation, including some takes from Washington fans on the good and bad of the game, can be heard on the audio player above.
