Are the Bears a must-win game for Commanders? Junkies are split on if so and why

Today’s Junkies poll on Twitter was an interesting one: is Thursday’s game against the Bears a must-win for the Commanders?

It’s a short week, yes, but more than 90 percent of the votes as of 1 p.m. said yes, Washington needs to win at home against a winless Bears squad that is in free fall.

For those of you that think there’s no such thing as a must-win in Week 5, well, JP Flaim is the guy for you.

“I guess I'm the only one that kind of quibbles with it, because I think if you win two of your next three, you're in a good spot,” he said. “Ideally, you want to win all the games, but you want to win two out of the next three. I think you'd be happy if I told you right now, we can skip these next three games, I'm gonna give you two wins. Would you take it?”

JP doesn’t care which order those come in, but Bish thinks “it has to be Chicago,” and EB says that to ‘realistically get to nine wins, you gotta beat at least one good team down the stretch and you got to beat all the bad teams.”

“It's not a must win in the sense that obviously you can recover from it, but to recover from it, now you got to beat a couple really good teams,” EB added.

“Just to have confidence the next few weeks, you have to beat the bad teams on your schedule, especially at home,” Bish chimed in. “At the end of the year, you could look back and you might be a game short of a wild card spot and go, ‘man, if we only would’ve beaten the Bears.”

JP thinks you could say that about last week, too, but the difference is the Commanders were heavy road underdogs and almost won there, so it was less expected.

“See, to me, if they lose to the Bears, the next one is a must-win,” JP said. “If they lose to the Bears, I don’t care how, it’ll be three losses in a row, 2-3, Cakes will be changing the date on that Ron-O-Meter.”

“Look, we had Jon Allen on the show and he said it was a must-win,” Bish responded. “If the players are feeling that way, fans should feel that way.”
