JUNKIES: Could Commanders sell, and maybe even change coaches, at trade deadline?

Sources have told Ben Standig that the Commanders haven’t had extension talks with either Montez Sweat or Chase Young, and in fact, the team will be sellers ahead of next Tuesday’s trade deadline.

The Junkies on Tuesday wondered if beating the Eagles Sunday to get to 4-4 would change that, but then again, Ron Rivera told the media Monday that the team wasn’t selling, so…

“I don’t think Ron is interested in selling, but Josh Harris might be,” Cakes said. “This could be them saying look, if we go to 3-5 and fall out of position, we’re going to sell off parts. That’s his approach, but Ron needs to survive and win games, so of course he doesn’t want to.”

“You think Josh will get involved to that extent?” EB asked. “I know these aren’t his guys, but I thought their model for ownership was they wouldn’t get involved?”

Cakes doubled down on wondering why Ron would want to sell when he knows he won’t be here, but Josh Harris certainly will, so it makes sense for ownership to step in there.

“Maybe they’re willing to listen now if the season goes sideways,” Cakes said about the notion that Chase Young has been drawing interest for months, even if he thinks the team is “keeping every door open” and “wouldn’t be stunned if he or Sweat were moved if ownership steps in.”

“Ron is playing out the string – as long as they let him coach, that’s what he’s doing,” JP said.

And that led him to ask: when do you pull the plug on a coach who is winning 43 percent of his games through now 3 ½ seasons?

“I’d consider it this week,” EB immediately blurted, even as JP reminded he would’ve done it at 4:01 p.m. on July 20.

Take a listen above as the guys discuss the ideas of selling and changing coaches mid-season!
