The Junkies weigh in on Josh Harris' search party and possible Commanders coaching candidates

The Junkies only had to speculate for half of their show Monday, as the news became official just after 8 a.m. that Ron Rivera had been dismissed as head coach of the Commanders – and Josh Harris is bringing in former Vikings GM Rick Spielman and ex-Warriors GM Bob Myers to help search for the next braintrust?

“I don’t think that’s a guy you hire as just part of your search committee…that sounds like a permanent hire of a highly-desired executive,” Cakes said of Myers. “This is a Harris-type move. He brought in Daryl Morey to run the Sixers, and he’s going to spare no expense in the front office.”

“Spielman is the football chops GM, Myers would be like the team President or whatever,” EB said, thinking of both the search parameters AND the possibility of those two being the actual hires.

And so, regardless of the situation, the guys were able to ‘officially’ turn to the future, and take a look at the possible head coaching candidates – especially now that we know the Falcons have also joined the Chargers, Raiders, and Panthers as official openings, meaning at least five jobs are open this offseason.

Cakes won the huge $7 “when will Ron officially be able to book a tee time in perpetuity at Pebble” pool, coming in at 8:35 a.m. and being the earliest of the crew, and the discussion then took a turn to…Eric Bieniemy?

“Six weeks ago, a lot of the fan base would’ve said to hire Bieniemy as the next head coach, and then the way the season ended…you realize they went down from Scott Turner’s offense?” JP said. “They went down from 330.3 yards per game, 20th in the NFL, to 312 yards and 24th – and in points per game, they went up from 18.9 to 19.4, but they went down a ranking from 24th to 25th.”

“You’re not going to find a guy on the planet who like to throw the ball more than your boy right here, and Bieniemy threw too much,” Cakes replied. “That’s too much for a young quarterback to overcome.”

The guys all think the offensive line was built to run the football more, and, well, it all ‘blew up in their face.’

“Here’s why you shouldn’t want him: score aside, where was all that innovation and trickery from Weeks 1-17?” Cakes asked. “He waited until Week 18 for all that? I hope you rented and didn’t buy, Eric.”
