Kevin Sheehan says Brian Davis' Commanders bid may be real, but 'doesn't pass smell test'

The Washington Commanders are on track to be purchased by a group led by Josh Harris for just a hair over $6 billion. But until that deal is exclusive and official, things could change and there will be reports of bids from a few last minute larrys.

Over the weekend, Brian Davis re-entered the news, reportedly offering a $7 billion all-cash bid to beat out the Harris-led group and offer Commanders owner Dan Snyder future legal protections. But, while there is no reason to doubt the report, Kevin Sheehan said Commanders fans shouldn't think too much about Davis' bid.

"I'm not buying that Brian Davis is a legitimate buyer," Sheehan said on Monday.

Sheehan then read some of what has been previously reported about Davis' business history and from that, even if Davis has the money here "is where you start to wonder, could a guy like this actually be cleared and be voted through."

According to a recent report from Arif Hasan, Davis and fellow Duke alumni Christian Laettner "have been under civil investigation several times in connection with their business ventures."

"The list of issues he has had in business are long," Sheehan said. "This is not a guy that the NFL owners are going to feel comfortable with, people."

"None of this passes the smell test," he concluded. "None of it."

Expect the Josh Harris-led group's bid to be made exclusive and binding and all set, sooner rather than later, Sheehan said. "We may get news on that by the end of the week."
