The Patriots have made their first move of 2024 free agency.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, New England is signing former Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson.

Gibson was drafted by Washington in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Memphis. After starting 10 games as a rookie and 16 in his second season (where he notched 1,037 yards rushing) Gibson began to be phased out of the offense in favor of Brian Robinson. He now heads to Foxborough for a fresh start.

In 16 games last season, Gibson rushed for just 265 yards on 65 carries (4.1 yards per attempt) while adding 389 yards on 48 catches (8.1 yards per reception). He tallied three touchdowns on the season.

Joining a running back room with Rhamondre Stevenson, Ja'Mycal Hasty, and Kevin Harris, Gibson adds an element in the passing game as well. The 6-foot-2 back has caught 172 passes for 1,282 yards and seven touchdowns over the last four seasons.

In all, Gibson had 29 touchdowns and 2,643 yards rushing (4.1 per attempt) in his 61 games with Washington.
